There are a couple of different tag posts floating around the blogging world at the moment. I've learned a lot of surprising facts about different bloggers and have found them really enjoyable and entertaining. I've been tagged in a few of them, so I've decided to somewhat merge them all and do a post of random facts about me. Not the obvious stuff though. You all know I like to cook and have a son named Billy that I'm obsessed with. But what about the other parts? The not so obvious facts. Here are a couple of random facts about me. Having read them all back I realise that most of them involve drama in some way...
I sang the theme tune to the soap "Neighbours" at my first birthday party. Even then I loved the sound of my own voice.
I am the eldest of five children. We range from aged 16 to 25 (me). Fun fact, my boyfriend claims I'll get the sentence "I'm the eldest of five children" in to every conversation that I possibly can. It may or may not be true.
I was a volunteer at The Special Olympics when they were held in Ireland. I worked in the entertainment dome co-ordinating some Karaoke for the contestants, their families and various visitors. One day a very special guest came in to the entertainment dome. He was in a golf-buggy type of vehicle, surrounded by army guards. I couldn't help myself and tactfully scurried through the crowds making my way up to this inspirational man. I got to shake his quivering hand. The conversation went like this -
Me - "It is such a pleasure to meet you Mr Mandela".
Him - "My name is Muhammad Ali".
This is a true story. I am equally proud and mortified by it. Don't judge me...
I have a degree in English and Philosophy from UCD. I went back to UCD a year after I graduated and completed an MA in Drama And Performance Studies. For my thesis I wrote an original script, partly supervised by the amazingly talented playwright Conor McPherson. He told me that my writing was "very funny and punchy". This was a very proud moment for me.
I suffer with pretty bad anxiety. I've had counselling and tried lots of different ways to combat it. It's a case of managing it as it happens. It's not something I advertise and it's something I do really struggle with. Just one of those things.
I won Best Supporting Actress at the Irish Student Drama Awards in 2008. I played the part of twelve year old Donna in The Billygoats Of Glenview Park, written and directed by the very talented Stephen Jones.
I'm terrified of the dentist. I'd literally cry in the waiting room even at this age.
I always said I'd love to have a baby by the time I was twenty five. That is exactly how it turned out, as it happens.
I worked in The Olympia Theatre for five years. I started as an usherette selling ice-cream, progressed on to merchandising and programme sales, and then was promoted to Personal Relations Officer. This was an incredible experience and to this day I deeply miss working there. It's still one of my favourite places in the whole world.
I played a "scantily-clad nun" in Father Ted, The Play.
I went to Las Vegas when I was seven months pregnant, and had the time of my life.
I eat everything, but even the sight of these sweets makes me feel sick. It's a strange one. They made me sick once when I was a child and the feeling has never left me. Yuck.
This is how we announced our pregnancy on Facebook. I was over five months pregnant and didn't mention anything until then. An eternity for a blogger!
I've had a selection of weird and wonderful employments in my past. Some of them include - being a "princess" at the World Of Princess' Exhibition in The Ambassador Theatre, bar work, promotional work, activity leader in a school of English, Drama and singing teacher, popcorn seller extraordinaire, substitute/supervision teacher in a secondary school, admin/marketing/customer service in various different companies.
Rosie And Jim was my favourite tv show when I was a child. Billy's is now Ben And Holly.
I've edited a book.
I was a twin in the early days. Imagine two of me?
I used to take sugar in my tea, and now it would revolt me to have it with sugar. Now there's a riveting fact.
I have two tattoos. A heart on my right foot and a sunflower on the back on my neck.
I was on Your A Star, got down to the last 12 at the Cork auditions and my school principal played the video of my audition at our school assembly. I was delighted but pretended to be scarlet.
I text about twenty people before I started this blog. People who's opinion I really value. I asked them what they thought about the idea of me starting a blog.
